For Kelly Clarkson’s album cover the colour scheme is dark and gothic which fits in with the images also on the album and the music. The black, grey, white and dark gold colours have been used on the front and back of the cover. The name ‘Kelly Clarkson’ has been printed in white and then layered over a black banner with gothic graphics around it. The contrast of the black on white is a great feature as it makes the artist’s name stand out. Underneath the artist’s name, overlapping it slighty is the name of the album in black over a banner in the dark gold colour. This is also a good feature as the gold is lighter than the black so it makes the album name stand out also. On the back and front of the CD cover the colour scheme continues. The colours contrast well and the dark gothic theme created throughout, gives an impression on the audience that the music on the album is dark yet ‘rocky’ due to the lighter grey in the background on the front cover, and from the images used.
The design of the album cover is well put together however I think the layout could be improved. I think that the name of the artist and album could be bigger as it’s not very eye catching to the viewer. Instead it could be put at the bottom of the CD cover so it doesn’t overtake the main image of Kelly yet can still be seen. However I do think that the pug is in a good position on the cover. On the back of the album I think the layout is poor as the track names have been placed at the bottom of the back cover and printed in really small text so it’s hard for the viewer to read what it says. The font is bold and chunky which shows a modern side to the album; however the name of the album is in a thin italic which shows that the artists name is more important than the name of the album.
The image on the front of the album cover is a close-up of Kelly Clarkson as it’s her album and shows her from the neck up. On the back of the album cover there is an image of Kelly infront of a dirty grey backdrop in a black dress that contrasts with the colour and theme of the album. These images represent her target audience of young girls from teenagers to older women and as her audience; they look at these pictures and aspire to be like her. These images represent the style of Kelly Clarkson and the style of her music.
On the frront of the album the image of Kelly is only from the neck up. Her hair is a rocky, messy style and has dark eye shadow along with dark blusher and pale skintoned lips. In the image on the back of the cover Kelly is sitting against a wall with her knees up and is wearing a stunning black dress. She is still made up with the same make-up style as on the front of the album cover but her hair is half up, half down. The hair and make-up both contrast well with the glamourness of the dress. This styling creates a sexy rocker girl look for Kelly. It’s a great style and one that will attract her audience and others.
Overall I think the cover gives a good indication as to what the album is about including the music and Kelly herself. Due to the images but also to the name of the album and the track names, which give good indication. It is clear that the product is aimed towards a large target market of women and even possibly men. The album however is not addressed to children or to an older market and due to the album this can clearly been seen.
Kerry Ellis, Anthems - Analysis 2

For Kerry Ellis’ album the colour scheme is of orange and white throughout. I love this colour theme as it shows the album is modern sophisticated yet funky. On the front cover Kerry’s name has been printed with a special effect that fades the colour from brown to orange then back to brown. This is a great feature as it’s different and makes the name stand out in huge amounts. Above the top of the artists name is the name of the album but just a little bit smaller in white. This contrasts well with the orange and matches the colour of the background. On the back of the album the track names are small and have been printed in orange to contrast with the picture in which Kerry is wearing an orange and black sequined dress. On the back of the cover there is also some text in black which contrasts well and doesn’t look out of place as it matches with the dress. The background is just white which makes the track names and the dress stand out and creates a modern and classy effect.
I really like the design of this album cover. I think the close up of Kerry is a great shot and fits in well with the headings on the front. I also like the colour scheme as it goes well with the design. I think the design on the back cover has been designed well and follows the theme with the front cover. Bold font has been used on the front and back of the CD cover which is a great effect as it stands out more and creates the funky, modern effect. The images contrast well with the text too, as Kerry’s outfit compliments the colours of the text well.
Like Kelly Clarkson’s album the image on the front cover is a close up, but instead of facing sideways on like Kelly, Kerry is facing head on looking straight at the camera. This image puts across a positive message to the target audience as her pose shows that she is a strong and confident woman. The image on the back of the cover is also a positive message to the audience as she is laughing. The images used on the cover are extremely important as they put across a message to the target audience of young girls, who are influenced by these images. The images also represent the artist and the artist’s music so they must be a positive message to the audience.
The image on the front of the album is taken of Kerry from the chest, up. Her hair is down and wavy. She has subtle makeup on with a hint of dark eye shadow. On the back of the cover, the image is a full length shot of Kerry in the same dress. In this shot you can see more of her curly hair however less of her makeup as she is looking down. Both the hair and the makeup fit well with the theme of the album cover making Kerry look glamorous and sexy which will draw in her target audience as well as others.
I really like this cover and I think it gives a good indication as to what the music and the artist is all about. It is clear that the product is aimed towards a large target market of women and even possibly men. The album however is not addressed to children or to an older market and due to the album cover this can clearly been seen by viewers.
JLS - Analysis 3

For JLS’s album the colour scheme is black and white and as the band members have their own colour they have also interpreted that onto the cover. These colours create a classy, modern feel to the album cover. The bright colours contrast well with the black and white which makes them stand out. It also makes the title stand out as the colours underline the title. The plain colours have a good effect on the cover as it makes it stand out and look modern. It also goes well with the genre of music featured on the album. The colour scheme is also continued on the back cover.
On the album the name of the band has been printed big across the top of the cover to be eye catching and stand out. The heading ‘JLS’ is in bold, funky lettering and is a clear logo for an audience to associate with. This is the only text on the front of the cover which makes it even more eye catching. On the back of the album the track names are in a small chunky font, all in capital letters. This is a suitable font to use as it continues the theme.
An image of the all the band members is featured on the front of the cover to show who’s album it is. I really like this image as it is plain and simple and easy for the viewer to associate with and it is a clear message to the viewer as to what the album is about. The main image on the front, just like Kerry Ellis’ album, all the band members are facing to the front looking straight at the camera.
This image is important as it’s the only image on the whole album cover plus it puts a message across to the target audience of young girls, who are influenced by these images. The images also represent the artist and the artist’s music so they must be a positive message to the audience.
The image on the front of the album is taken of each band member, from the chest, up. They are all dressed in black to match the theme of the album cover, also gives the band members a sexy look. They are also wearing different styles of clothing, this is to show their individuality as a person.
I like this album cover and I think it gives a good indication as to what the music and the artist is all about. It is clear that the product is also aimed towards a large target market of women and even possibly men. The album however is not addressed to children or to an older market and due to the album cover this can clearly been seen by viewers.
