For my first initial idea I have designed the album to have a colour scheme of black and white, along with the colours from the main image on the front. As the image will be taken in the woods, colours such as green and brown will also be included within the colour scheme. The image will create an autumn feel to the album. The text in black and white will hopefully create a modern feel to the album cover along with the autumn feel of the colours from the image.
The main title of the album name is big and bold and takes up the top half space of the cover. The name of the artist fits well underneath the name of the album. The name of the artist is in smaller, italic font that slightly overlaps the album name. The rest of the cover is taken up by the main image. The pug also fits in with the design in the bottom right corner of the cover. I like the way this design fits together and I would definitely like to develop this design further.
The image on the cover will be a picture taken of me as I’m the artist and it will be taken in the location of the woods. When taking the photos I wills get someone to help and I will try out different locations in the woods and see which photographs come out the best and fit best with this design. The image of the woods represents as said before an autumn feel to the cover so this could influence the name of the album.
The pug on the bottom right corner is an advertisement for the album indicating what’s inside e.g. a special featured song. I think this layout is good as it’s big enough for the viewer to associate with, and I think that this will stand out on a shelf.
I think this design gives a good indication of what the product is and what’s inside. It’s designed to appeal to my market of young girls aged 12-19 I also think it represents the viewers interest well as the cover consists of the image of the actually artist, which is what fans what to see when they are buying their favourite pop star’s album. I do think however that the album cover won’t appeal to people who like rock or gothic music as it’s clear that the cover doesn’t address that type of audience by the type of image and colour scheme.
For my second initial idea I have come up with the colour scheme of white and orange inspired from my analysis of Kerry Ellis’ album. I really like this colour scheme and I think that it creates a bold and bright feel to the front cover. As the image will be taken in a studio the background will be white and I think that this will contrast well with the orange text. I think these colours give a professional impression to the album. The image will be in black and white which I think will go well with the orange and white and make the cover look modern.
The title of the album will be in a bold text across the top of the front cover with the artist’s name at the bottom. The pug is positioned to the right side of the cover next to the close up shot of the artist. The artists name is in italic to contrast with the bold text. By having a bold text this makes the album cover look bolder, makes the title stand out and attracts the viewer.
On the front of the cover there is an image of the artist. The photo is a close up that will be taken in a photography studio with a white background. As said before, the picture will be in black and white to create a modern feel to the album. The image on the cover represents the artist and the music on the album so she will need to be dressed in glamourous (but not too loud) outfit so that the audience can gain some idea of what is on the album. The image of the artist will show her holding a pose facing sideways but looking at the camera. This will show that the artist is bold, by looking into the camera but a little bit shy as she is facing sideways. Her hair will be down and curly as I think that curly hair gives a softer look to the artist which will go better with the theme of the album cover. The artist’s makeup will also be softer and natural looking, with no harsh makeup e.g. dark eye shadow. This then will create a natural and soft look.
On the cover there is a pug which is a simple convention of a CD cover. The pug shows the viewer what’s inside the album e.g. a hit single that has been included or a bouns track. I really like the size and the layout of this design. I think is bold and confident and would definitely stand out on a shelf in a shop.
I think the cover gives a good indication of what’s inside it’s bold and modern which represents the music on the album and is a good message to send out to the audience as the album is aimed mostly towards young girls and they will be most likely to buy an album that is bold and modern than one that is gothic or rocky.
For my third initial idea the colour scheme for this album cover is blue and white. As the main image on the cover is to be taken on the beach I think the blue and white will contrast well with the blue from the sky and blue also from the sea. As the image is set on the beach I think this will create a summery feel to the cover. The blue and white of the text will be positioned across the sand on the beach so there won’t be a busy background that could then clash with colours of the text.
The main title of the album is at the bottom of the album cover just above and layered over the name of the artist. Both headings will be layered on top of a white banner positioned to the left of the album cover. The rest of the cover will be taken up by the main image. On the left side of the cover, in the top corner there is a pug to advertise contents of the album and to follow conventions of CD covers.
The main image on the front of the CD cover will be a picture of the artist sitting on a bench looking out to sea over the beach. It will be a long shot image and will show a back profile of the artist. I think this image will give a calm and quiet impression of the album which will suit the style of the music on the album which is slow/contemporary pop. The beach location also contributes to the impression that the album cover gives of the calm and quietness.
In this image the artist will be wearing casual but fashionable clothing to go with the setting of the beach and to appeal to the target audience.
The artists hair will be down and wavy which I think will go well with the scene and her clothing and her makeup will be natural to keep the constant calm feeling of the location. By carrying the theme through with the artist’s looks will keep consistency of the theme.
On the left side of the cover there is a pug (simple convention of a CD cover) to advertise to the audience what’s inside the album e.g. a hit single that has been included or a bonus track. I like the size and the layout of this design however I do think that there are too many bare spaces on the cover for this initial idea. I do like the calm theme that this cover represents yet I don’t think that it will stand out on a shelf so when developing I may need to re think the design and positioning of some of the covers conventions.
I think this cover definitely gives a good indication of what is inside it calm and a peaceful picture which I really like and I think it represents my music genre well. I think the cover gives out a good message to the audience that it’s aimed at which is young girls and it is clear that the album cover isn’t aimed towards people who like loud music e.g rock music.
